Strawberries!

Recently, we were given hundreds and hundreds of beautiful, organic, freshly picked strawberries. Strawberries are one of my favourite fruits and they make me so excited that warm weather is on its way!

We originally planned to make them into jam, but soon decided they were much too beautiful and chose to live off strawberries for the next week! I'm so glad we did!

My new favourite morning tea treat is strawberries on toast! Simply some buttered (well, nuttelexed) wholegrain toast, some fresh mint, a few squished strawberries and a teeny drizzle of pure maple syrup. Amaaazing.

Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii

When one of my dear friends sent me the link to this amazing site, I came across the work of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. Prokudin-Gorskii was a Russian photographer around the beginning of the 20th century. Of course I had seen his most famous photograph - the only colour photo of Tolstoy - but had never really thought about just how early it must have been taken! While photography as a form of art has never hugely interested me, I love looking at old photos; I particularly love early colour photographs. I am also madly in love with all things Russian! So many of my favourite books are by Russian authors and I have always dreamed of travelling there. So needless to say, I find Prokudin-Gorskii’s photos amazing. They provide such an amazing view into Russian life at the time. I have spent quite a while reading about his life and photography techniques. These are just a few of my favourite pictures.

Midnight in Paris

Last night we went along to see Midnight in Paris. It was the first Woody Allen film that I’ve seen and really, really loved. And me oh my did I love it. It tells the story of a Hollywood script writer who dreams of being a novelist. He travels to Paris with his fiancĂ© and her family. While I knew that the movie involved a bit of time travel and a lot of wandering the streets at night, I had no idea about all the great writers and artists Gil would meet along the way. I giggled with glee at every new character. I loved how they interacted with one another and how they were all exactly as I imagined. I wished that it went on forever and ever. I don’t want to give to much away, so this is just the best movie and I would recommend you see it right away!

hello ebay

Today i finally got around to doing something I have been meaning to do forever - going through all my clothes and putting a bunch up on ebay. As I got more and more ruthless, the pile just grew and grew. It is definitely time to stop internet shopping. I got through photographing and uploading about a quarter of them before I got a little bored. I'll be putting the rest up later this week. Not one of my ebay-bound items have I worn more than twice, and far too many still have the tags attached.

So goodbye modcloth, goodbye topshop, goodbye to all the other internet shops where I've wasted far too much time, money and greenhouse gas emissions I'm calling it quits... for a few months at least.

All my ebay items are over here!

at the market

Today I popped on down to the North Melbourne Market where I had a stall. While the market was not quite as busy as I hoped, it was lots of fun to set up a little stall and see all my dresses hanging out on display!

to market to market

Eep I am getting a little excited for my stall at the North Melbourne Market this weekend! If you're in the area, pop on down and say hello! I'll be selling lots of pretty dresses, tops and skirts; as well as heaps of cute badges and hair accessories!

Oh Linda

One of my favourite ways to waste time is by gazing away at pretty pictures of pretty ladies from yesteryear. I’m currently a little bit in love with the late sixties Linda Ronstadt. I love how she was always getting around in bare feet and how she wore the same dress at The Bitter End, and then again on the Johnny Cash Show a year later. Rumour has it that she turned up to play the show sans underwear, but June Carter wouldn’t let her go onstage until someone went and bought her some undergarments. Tooo funny.

hey there four eyes

So last week my fears were confirmed: I am as blind as a bat. Well, not really, but I do need glasses! And not just reading glasses; all the time glasses! Here’s what I have learned about glasses:

1 - you actually need to wear glasses
Well duh of course you do. But then you have to choose your glasses. My initial browsing told me that all glasses are designed for either a. bank managers, or b. black-clad fellows who shop at Alphaville and hang about inner-city suburbs. Of course, I decided to go with the latter, as well, it’s better than the alternative. I soon realised, however, that no matter what glasses I get, I will look like a librarian... could be worse.

2 - I can seeeee
ohmygosh I can seeeee! I never even realised that I couldn’t see before. I just thought it was normal. I put my headaches down to an iron deficiency I was too scared to address and left it at that. Now I’m wandering about the place saying things like “ooh what a nice TV we have” and “oh gosh my windscreen IS dirty”.

So the moral of the story is, get yo’ eyes tested!

oh my gosh i love spring + bicycles

Yesterday was the perfect, lovely, sunny spring day. In fact, it was too perfect to not spend it ridin’ about on a bicycle. So that’s just what we did!

Just being a pro at the velodrome.

and yay for the prettiest Spring days ending in the prettiest sunsets!
